There is big news around, the last couple of weeks about the changed national education policy of India. Much needed one. Focusing on the holistic development of Indian students.
Hopefully, our offsprings would be benefitted when this latest introduced policy will be implemented. Union cabinet nodded at the new one. Let’s see how long it would take to change the scenario of the education system of the country.
Sustainable & simple layout
The last two-three generations have suffered a humongous way by the ongoing outdated poorly designed education policy of India. Children had been worst hit by the expired copy-pasted education system followed until now. Remembering my own school days & glancing at my seven-year little one. This new NEP is definitely a relief.
Seems that changed education policy will ease the unwanted heavy burden our little & young ones carrying today. The ability to fit in the environment around is what education should be all about. An education system is obviously curated to cater to the intellectual development of the student. To make them slaves of the routine system without any perspective is not the purpose of education.
Self-reliant India
The NEP states that “at least 50 percent of the learners” going through the school and higher education system shall have exposure to vocational education. Vocational crafts such as carpentry, electric work, metalwork, gardening, pottery making, etc will be sampled. This is probably the best feature of the proposal introduced as NEP. This is a well-thought idea. In fact, suits our citizen’s situations as well as our countries needs of vast development. Receiving the applicable education, students would possibly perform well as future entrepreneurs, employers, employees, etc.
Mobility
Uniformity with the overseas in terms of the curriculum will be beneficial. The whole world is now becoming a big island, we all can experience in our day to day lives. Movement of people, things, technology, culture, etc are no more a strange notion. International traveling has eliminated all the indifferences.
Education, which only provides us with information regarding our own boundaries is not relevant today. Updated changes should be welcomed wholeheartedly. The country will let foreign universities to set up their campuses here, a move that will not only make these centers of relative excellence accessible to larger sections of the Indian population.
Around 7 billion dollars every year outflow outside the country for the reason of higher education abroad currently. This outflow will be stopped at once when high-end top institutes, universities will be available to our students. Besides, these universities will ease the shortcomings of our Indian universities.
Categories of streams demolished
We all have been to a situation where we have to choose between equally bad options as streams. So many youths of our country had settled their capabilities & talents just because of the segregation of the main streams. Now students are free to pursue their aspirations without bothering about the mainstream concept. This feature of NEP has expanded the possibilities of young minds to opt for the most suited carrier & future plan for them. The rigid separation of streams was for sure a trauma for the new aspirants.
Tangible graduation with practical learning
A four-year graduation program is an amazing idea to cater to the needs of youth. Every year of the graduation is going to hold it’s acceptance. Students won’t have to revise only the syllabus again & again in the name of higher education. Instead, they will utilize their precious time practicing what they have already learned so far. They will even boosted-up by the internships offered. First-hand knowledge & experiences at the university level are going to put foundation stones of their future carriers. Also, they will be able to withdraw at any level of graduation.
Increased GDP shares of public investment
As more people will invest in the education, monopoly of currently engaged large business houses in the field of public schools & universities will certainly break. Raised funds would favor the needed ones for sure. The right to education ( 6 years to 14 years), over the next decade, will be hopefully 100% completed. After the implementation of this education policy annual dropout rate of the students is supposed to be lesser than the current ratio.
Innovative four tired system of education 5+3+3+4
The current 10+2 year schooling system will give way to the new system that will be spread across 15 years. Under this system, kids in the age bracket of 3 to 6 will be brought into the pre-schooling & Anganwadi system. The initial three years will be followed by two more years in grades 1 & 2 making it a total of five years. Experts who consulted government drafting NEP 2020 recommended this as kids see maximum brain development during this age.
At this crucial age, kids need special attention. The new policy is more toward making kids comfortable while learning. It would help kids, their parents, school authorities to work as a team. This will further help the kid to become a confident, self-dependent adult.
The age factor included
In a significant shift from the 1986 policy, which is pushed for a 10+2 structure of school education, the new NEP pitches corresponding to the age groups 3-8 years (foundational stage), 8-11 years (preparatory), 11- 14 years (middle), 14- 18years (secondary). The child should be taught in their mother tongue or regional language until the 5th class. The new NEP emphasis that education should be concurrent & responsive by nature.
Offering vocational training in class 6th is one of the best features of the new national education policy. If a student is not interested in academics & want to focus on some skills. These vocational training will serve immensely. Interested students could pursue them timely. Vocational training at the school level will ease the burden of our middle & lower-middle-class citizens as they do not have to further invest time & effort in the training of their wards somewhere else, after completing education, as a separate task.
Conclusion
The new national policy will be focussing more on the students as an entity. Only acquiring marks, degree, promotion on the basis of mere academics won’t be termed education anymore. Students have to shape up their whole personality to be called educated. Skill learning will get its due respect & acceptance.
An open outlook of the education system will enhance the productivity of the teachers, school management, institutes, their faculties also to bring -up the best possible among students. Up to eighteenth students will be guided & educated uniformly. Lack of stability, which has been suffered by our new talents so far in the education sector will be addressed.
Little children will be able to live their childhood, can talk in their mother tongue, will be provided mid-day meals, the unnecessary curriculum will be cut-short hopefully. Their creativity, talent would be carved to the optimum level. They will get enough opportunities to nurture their dreams.
Teenagers will be timely guided to pursue their desired carriers. They will be helped by the infrastructure built by additional public investments. Boring academics would not traumatize students anymore. Practical knowledge will fill up the gaps & flows of theories.
Mocking, aping, coping, etc is not education. Students are going to experience the desired change as an outcome of education at every level. The new education policy allows students to withdraw at any level, change their minds at any level, freedom to opt, or choose their desired field as studies.
