Developers: It was developed on May 27, 2003  by its founders American developer Matt Mullenweg and English developer Mike Little.

Post

WordPress can be used to publish any type of content. The content posted on the website is known as Post. Thus, we can say that the post is the blog content listed in reverse chronological order (newest content on the top). Bloggers use it to post blogs.

E-Commerce companies or new start-up businesses post their content to be visible to society and sell their goods and services. The homemakers post the recipes on the site and receive comments for it. Event management companies post about their upcoming events so that the people can know about them and they can sell their tickets online. Teachers give online classes to their students. Wedding planners post their ideas, images, and videos to be visible for their creativity and attract business. WordPress can be used by anyone to post their content, video, photos as per their need and gain popularity and earn.

Pages

In WordPress when we create our site the page which comes up is known as “ Home Page” which defines the relevant data that will be available on the website. It is an editable page i.e. no one can make changes, correct or post anything on it. It can only be edited by the maker of the website. The pages are static and the content is timeless content. Pages can be divided into subpages.

Pages can use different page templates, including template files and template tags. It is possible on WordPress that we can create a site that has only pages in it. The home page of the site contains information like About the company, Location, Courses, “and Contact information. It is known as starting content. We need not change the content of the home page frequently. We can create more pages on the website providing more information to the user like publishing pages for relevant blogs, articles, videos. Some themes which have a wider range of display options or adjustments for them individual pages are used to give proper visual appearance.

Media

Media consists of images, videos, recordings,, and files that can be uploaded and used in the blog. It is usually uploaded and inserted into the content when writing a Post or writing a Page. In WordPress admin sidebar is used to manage user uploads (images, audio, video, and other files).

Under the Media menu, there are two screens. The first screen library lists all the files in the media library. These files can be edited and deleted from the library. The second screen is Add New, which allows users to upload files. The Add New link allows the users to upload files without attaching them to a specific post or page. The Media Library provides two types of views. One is Grid View and another is conventional List View. Media library is a library where all the images, videos, recordings and files are stored together to be used by the user.

We can either use the media available online or we can use it from our gallery also. Even the logo of the company or the background image present on the website is also a form of media. Media creates a visual impact on the minds of the people and leaves a lasting impact on their minds. It also helps in a better understanding of the subject. It is said -” Things once seen are retained longer in the mind”. Media helps to make the content more creative, attractive and easy to memorize.

Themes

Themes are the collection of templates or style sheets that are used to define appearances and display of a site on a WordPress. They can be changed, modified, updated as per the requirement. All this can be done through the Admin area under Appearances where the option of themes is available. There are several free and paid themes available on WordPress. We can even use our own images from the gallery. We can change the look of the page or background in just one click.

Themes help in making the pages more attractive and appealing to the reader thereby gaining their attention. Themes can be understood as a “Message “ or an “ Idea “ underlying in the website as it is the first thing noticed by the reader when the site is clicked. Therefore while designing the theme should be carefully chosen to make the theme more effective and message delivering to the reader.

Plugins

It is a piece of software that contains a group of functions that can be added to a WordPress website. They can either add or extend the available functions on WordPress. Plugins are usually paid forms of the software as they provide advanced features. They help in making the site more appealing and user friendly.

Plugins are used to customize the site as per the requirement. They are a great resource as it allows our site to do things it otherwise wouldn’t be able to do. But at the same time, we also need to be cautious as the more number of plugins we have in our site greater the risk of problems occurring in our site. They allow the web browser to display the additional content which was not originally designed to display. Therefore, they should be used if necessarily required by the site.

Comments

Comments are a form of two -way communication between the reader and the writer. The comments can be added on blogs, post, video or on any content posted on the website. Basically, the comments allow the website visitor to discuss with the writer or each other. When we activate the “ Comments “ option on our page or post, WordPress inserts several text boxes after the content where the reader can submit their comments. Once it is approved by the writer, it starts to appear below the content which is posted on the website.

A lively comment can prove to be a great way for the writer and the reader to build a community around the blog or post. Comments option on WordPress enables the developer to either “ Enable “ or “ Disable “ the option of comments for the readers. So developers have full control to approve, delete or edit comments posted by readers on the post or blog. WordPress also provides an extra feature of Comment Moderation which allows the writer to protect comments from appearing on the site without express approval. This option safeguards the site from spam.

Users

WordPress is available for everyone and anyone who wishes to create his own website. The persons working or creating the website on WordPress are termed as “ Users”. The user can belong to any domain. He can be a blogger, an e-commerce website, business website, event-management website, membership website ( where we can put our content behind a paid wall or on an account login).
